Spotlight on UB Rowing Alumna Alexis Sciarrino

Name: Alexis Sciarrino (Grates)

Varsity or Club: I rowed for the varsity team

Years at UB: 2004-2006 I transferred to UB as a junior to join the rowing program after coach Rudy recruited me from the summer rowing program at West Side Rowing club in Buffalo

Favorite memories: so many amazing times with teammates both on the water and when exploring the cities we visited for racing. Maybe not the best memory but vividly remember when our buses never came for a long trip (I think Philly?) And we got loaded on one school bus.

Rowing accomplishment: honestly, just being part of the team. I had never rowed prior to college. When I initially went to undergrad I planned to play soccer but was injured and couldn't try out. My college was just starting a club team for rowing and I decided to try it and fell in love. I came home for a summer and was rowing at west side when Rudy recruited me to row at UB on the varsity team which was D1 at the time.

Major: mathematics

Current occupation: emergency physician

Advice: have fun!! Honestly miss my rowing days regularly. I have moved on to more accessible sports but now voluntarily erg because I miss it.
