UB Rowing Athlete of the Week Katie Alves

Name: Katie Alves

Walk on rower.

I started rowing because I missed being on a team and having a set practice schedule. Both for the structure and the exercise.

My favorite memory was the Shamrock Row, because it was the first time that I competed in this sport. Although it was on an Erg it was still very exciting.

I have learned that I do better at both school and sports when I have a schedule, and having rowing practice in the morning really helped me find that structure.

My favorite thing that keeps me coming back is how encouraging everyone is. You can’t tell the difference between people who have rowed for 5 years or only one semester. Everyone is cheering you on the same way and being just as helpful and friendly.
